Biography of Sunan Kalijaga

Sunan Kalijaga (1460-1513) born as Raden Mas Said son of Duke of Tuban in East Java, Indonesia, was one of the "nine saints" or "wali songo" of Javanese Islam. The Kalijaga title was derived from an orchard known as Kalijaga in Cirebon. Other accounts suggest that the name derives from his hobby of submerging himself in Kali (river in Javanese) . Other note that the name Kalijaga derived its nature from the Arabic notion of qadli dzaqa which means "holy leader" in sultanate.

The Leadership Traits of Sunan Kalijaga

1. Intelligent

He performing 'dakwah' or spreading Islam in Javanese Land through the Javanese culture. He know from that, the people will easy to accept the Islam. He use the gamelan music, poem, and etc to send the message of Islam.

2. Tolerant

He likes to discuss and hear the idea from other leader and people. From other word he like to make a meeting(syura) with his member before do something.

3. People-oriented

He likes to help the people in need especially the poor people in that time. This make the people very like his personality and character. The other big prove that show he is people-oriented when he help people during construction of Great Mosque Demak. There is one main pole that make by himself.

4. Brave and Big Heart

He was very brave to fight the person that do the bad things and it was not easy because the bad culture was practise since long time before he become a leader. The example bad things or crime that he successful to diminish are robbing, prostitution, and rape.
